 Jerry
Slayton is just one of the artist who will be featured at the
Columbia Museum of Art for the Post Graffiti
art show.
Born
Dec. 6, 1982 in Birmingham, Alabama I began studying art in high
school and developed a natural attraction to graphic images found
on
album covers, illustration, etc. Entered college with the intention
of
studying architecture but soon became more interested in creating
the
visual and less interested in the science of structure. Finished
my
degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where I studied
collage/painting and graphic design. Influences range from 1920's
german abstraction, to 1960s assemblage, to 60-70s pop art, to
80's
post-graffiti. I'm currently a graduate student at the University
of
South Carolina where I combine my interests in stencil and vector
images with media such as video, animation, and sticker art. My
work
hopes to provoke questions regarding authority and socio-economic
structures.
images included are two digital images from 2009 and two vinyl
sticker
pieces from 2010
